Report animal cruelty in Italy

Did you see an animal mistreated, abandoned, kept in bad conditions or in danger while in Italy, or in a video online? Tell us what is happening. The legal team of Animal Law Italia reads every report and answers you, telling you whether and how they can act. You can write in English.

A dog tied to a short chain in a bare courtyard; outside the fence a person takes a photo of it.

If an animal is in danger right now, call 112

112 is the European emergency number, free from any phone, with operators who speak English. The police can go there; we can’t. Then, if you like, finish the report: it helps us follow the case.

Call 112
Before you report: five things to know
  • Don’t put yourself at risk: don’t enter private property, don’t confront anyone, don’t take the animal yourself.
  • If you can, take photos or a video from where you stand, in a public place. Keep the originals: they carry the date and time. Write down number plates, addresses, times.
  • Did you see a cruelty video on social media? Don’t share it: pick «Online» below. Pescato in Rete, Animal Law Italia’s project that takes online animal abusers to court, looks at it.
  • This report is not a criminal complaint. The legal team assesses it and tells you whether they can follow it up; if a complaint is needed, they help you prepare it.
  • Your details stay confidential: we don’t give them to the person you report. If the case reaches the authorities they might ask you to testify; we ask you first.
